FAQ

Why MyLink500 - Using MyLink500 - Networker Types - Problems

WHY MYLINK500?
LinkedIn no longer displays the number of connections for top networkers. Anyone with over 500 connections carries a notation only of "500+" connections, whether they have 501, 5,000, or 25,000 connections. This is an insult to top networkers who take pride in the care and development of their networks and evangelism of LinkedIn. This site and service is dedicated to these proud networkers.
USING MYLINK500

It's easy to be a part of MyLink500. There is no group to join. No account or password is required. No HTML or other code is needed. And no sales person will come calling. Just click on Add a Listing and fill out the form!

Some tips:

  • Be a good networker. Don't just write "Let's connect." Always identify yourself as a fellow MyLink500 member and use a Professional Introduction that tells who you are, what you do, and what you're looking for.
  • Using addresses and email lists. There are multiple ways to use the addresses and lists contained here. It depends on many factors - how well you know the other party, their networking type, and whether you have available invitations. Remember, it's against LinkedIn policies to directly send an invitation to someone who doesn't know you.
    • You can add a group of addresses to your LinkedIn contacts to invite them.
    • You can send Introductions to MyLink500 members.
    • You can send a group email to ask the recipient to send you an invitation or if it's all right for you to send one.
  • Sending group email. Always use BCC. Do not put everyone's email address in the TO or CC fields. It is an invasion of privacy and an abuse of email to expose everyone's email address. If you send or forward email in this way, it is considered a violation of our Terms of Service and you will be suspended and removed from our directory.
NETWORKER TYPES

LinkedIn provide no reasonable way to determine if a user is open to contact from LinkedIn members he may not know. Many members have to hike their skirts up and insert their address in the profile or even their name, which is against LinkedIn's rules. LinkedIn makes you feel as if you are some shadowy street prostitute.

MyLink500 solves that problem. When you add a listing you can specify what kind of networker you are and can contact open networkers.

NOTE - If you are a MyLink500 Libertine or Open Networker, you cannot respond to a LinkedIn invitation from a fellow MyLink500 user with "I Don't Know" (IDK) or report it as spam. IDKs and spam reports can cause the sender's account to be restricted. If you use an IDK you will be banned and your account suspended. Read our Terms of Service or report a violator.

Networker Type MyLink500 Email List
Libertine LIBERTINES invite and accept most invitations from other members. They do not respond with "I Don't Know" or report them as spam. LIBERTINE List
Open OPEN networkers invite unsolicited invitatations. They reserve the right to accept only those they want. However they do guarantee that they won't report received invitations as "I Don't Know" or as spam. The OPEN list contains both Open and Libertine networkers.
Warm WARM networkers may publish their email address, but that does not mean they are OPEN. They invite personal LinkedIn invitations but have certain criteria to accept. Many WARM networkers decline invitations that use the standard LinkedIn invitation form and do not provide a personal Introduction. Some WARM networkers may decline invitations from recruiters or where there is little commonality with the sender. WARM networkers may publish invitation criteria with their MyLink500 listing or LinkedIn profile. Warm networkers reserve the right to reject invitations with "I Don't Know." There is no MyLink500 list of WARM networkers. Be careful sending invitations to WARM networkers as they may respond with "I Don't Know." Individually contact these people through email or LinkedIn personal Invitations, Introductions, or InMails
Closed CLOSED networkers only seek invitations from people they know. If they publish their email address, it is only to make it easy for people to do business with them. It should not be construed as a sign they welcome unsolicited invitations. There is no MyLink500 list of CLOSED networkers. Use LinkedIn to individually contact these people through Introductions or InMails. Do not invite them as they will respond with "I Don't Know" if they don't know you.
HISTORY

MyLink500 is composed of two parts

  • DallasBlue web pages. The web pages contain information about and displays the MyLink500 database. You cannot edit them.
  • Database. The database is hosted at http://creator.zoho.com and displayed in DallasBlue web pages or at the Zoho site where the directory can be viewed, added, or edited.

Prior to July 2007 MyLink500 was hosted at MyLinkWiki as a wiki table. Those listings are not current, no longer maintained, and not linked to. But they are still up at http://linkedin.pbwiki.com/500 and can be edited. MyLinkWiki requires a password for editing.

In July 2007 a wiki was set up at toplinked.pbwiki.com to host the directory and database listings. In March 2008 the home and most pages were moved over the DallasBlue web pages.

PARTNERS
The MyLink500 database also powers the Member Directory for MyLink500, DallasBlue, and other Partners. If you have a listing through a Partner, check with them for their links and particular guidelines for membership and adding and editing listings.
